This early candlestick was most likely hand wrought by a gun maker as the twisted shaft mimics how a rifle or shotgun barrel was made. Stands about 7 1/8 inches tall. The wood base is made from turned walnut. The candle socket itself is raised and lowered by revolving the tab.
As the candle burned down it would get to the iron top and be extinguished by contact with the cold iron. Very nicely made and in great condition.
