Hand Carved Iron Wodo Bear. Ironwood carving is a unique art done by the Seri indigenous tribe living in the great Sonona desert of S. The tribe stated caving in 1961 using the hard wood of the Olneya Tesota tree which only grows in the desert of S. The tree is protected by the government, and can only be used for artisan purposes from naturally, fallen trees that have been exposed to desert conditions for five years. This heavy sculpture weighs 7 1/2 lbs and measures 11 1/4" long, 7 1/2" wide, and 8 high.

The meticulous carving on the bear's coat and face, make this a special work of art. Ironwood is very similar to ebony - a dark wood with a beautiful grain and extremely hard to carve.
